Terms and conditions
These terms apply to purchases of Celestium and Celestium Pro from De Gouden Cyclus.
Identity of the seller
Celestium is sold by De Gouden Cyclus, trading as Celestium, a sole proprietorship registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 42153969. The business address, VAT number and email address appear at the bottom of this page.
Applicability
These terms apply to every offer we make and to every contract that results from it between you and us. Any departure from them applies only if we have agreed it with you in writing beforehand.
Formation of the contract
The contract is formed when you accept our offer. If you order by email, that is when you confirm your order by email and pay. If you order through the order form on this website, that is as soon as you place your order with the order button in the form, even if your payment arrives later. The withdrawal period described below under the right of withdrawal also runs from that day. You receive a confirmation by email afterwards.
The product: functionality, security and system requirements
Celestium is an astrology program for Windows and macOS for calculating and analyzing charts: birth charts, transits, progressions, synastry, composite charts and, in Celestium Pro, the more extensive analyses on top of those. The program runs entirely on your own computer; calculating a chart needs no internet connection.
The program works out the positions of the sun, moon, planets and points using the Swiss Ephemeris, derives the houses, aspects and further data that belong to a chart, and renders that as a drawing and as tables. It calculates with the ephemeris files bundled with the program. Where a setting decides the outcome, such as the house system, the zodiac or the chosen ayanamsa, you pick it yourself.
Those ephemeris files sit in the resources/ephe folder: on Windows next to the program, on macOS inside the application bundle. So you can see for yourself whether they are there. There are twelve files. They let you calculate the sun, the moon, the planets and six asteroids from 9 January 1200 through 31 December 3599. The numbered asteroids have files of their own, and those end sooner: through the year 3000.
If a file is missing or damaged, for instance because a virus scanner has quarantined it, Celestium calculates with an analytical model instead of with the files. That model is less accurate. The same happens for a date before 8 January 1200. When Celestium uses that model, the program says so with the chart.
The analytical model does not cover everything. It does not exist for the numbered asteroids, and the model itself ends during April 3003. Where neither the files nor the model can supply a position, Celestium does not calculate that point and it is missing from the chart. Before 8 January 1200 that applies to the six asteroids in the twelve files, and after the year 3001 to the numbered ones. After 7 January 3600 it applies to every point that reads its position from a file. Anything that comes from a formula, such as the mean lunar node and the mean Black Moon, still works. Around these boundary dates a position may be missing or approximated.
Celestium gives no advice about health, money, work or relationships, and makes no predictions. The program does contain interpretation texts: general descriptions of positions and aspects, not personal advice. What a calculated position means for someone is for you to decide; that reading is your work, including towards your own clients. The purchase covers the calculation, the display and those general interpretation texts.
On Windows you need Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11, on a 64-bit (x64) processor. On macOS you need macOS 15 Sequoia or newer, on a Mac with Apple Silicon. Intel-based Macs are not supported.
Your license key entitles you to use Celestium on up to three devices. A license server keeps track of the number of activations and issues a digitally signed proof of entitlement for each device. You activate your license key online; you need an internet connection when you activate. After that, Celestium renews your license now and then through our server; if the contact fails, Celestium keeps working. The privacy statement lists the data Celestium sends when it does. The full explanation is in the license terms.
Using the bundled program Celestium Exchange, you can export your data in three formats. CEXF (Celestium EXchange Format, .cexf) carries everything across: people, folders, derived charts and formatted notes. AAF (Astrologisches Austauschformat, .aaf) holds only people with their birth data; folders and derived charts are dropped. Plain text (.tsv or .csv) holds people and the folder structure, without derived charts. Celestium Exchange shows what each format leaves out before you save. Folders with a PIN are only included if you have already unlocked them in that session.
Celestium Exchange also reads CEXF, AAF, Quick*Chart files (.qck) and text or CSV files. Quick*Chart is written by programs including Solar Fire, Astrolog and Planetdance; AAF by programs including Astrolog, SolaNova and AstroWorx.
Celestium Exchange runs on Windows and macOS. There is also Celestium Import, a separate program that reads the Access database Astroscoop uses (.mdb); that program runs on Windows only, because the Access component it needs exists only as a 32-bit Windows component.
The CEXF specification will be published and is free to implement, without permission and without cost.
You can also save a chart as a PDF or an image, or copy it to the clipboard, for use outside Celestium. That is output for display: a PDF or image carries no chart data that another astrology program can read back in.
The program itself consults OpenStreetMap, only for the map display with the Mercator (OSM) projection in the Astrocartography and Local Space screens of Celestium Pro. The trial version also asks the time servers ntppool.time.nl (TimeNL) and ptbtime1.ptb.de (PTB) for the time each time it starts, to check the date. If those two disagree, or one of them does not answer, it also asks ptbtime2.ptb.de (PTB). The program also contacts our license server when you activate, renew, update or deregister your license (see above). In addition, the licensed version asks our license server which version is the newest each time it starts and every hour after that. That request contains no data from the program. The trial version does not do this. The program consults no other external sources.
Your data lives in a single, ordinary SQLite database file, astrologie.db, in Documents\Celestium on Windows and in ~/Documents/Celestium on macOS. If your Documents folder syncs with iCloud, Celestium on macOS uses ~/Library/Application Support/Celestium instead. That database file is not encrypted: your data is yours, and you can copy the file and take it with you as you see fit. How to make a copy of it is set out further down, under "Your data and backups".
The PIN you set on a folder is meant to stop someone who is briefly at your computer from opening that folder’s contents: a lock within the program itself.
Prices
During the introductory period, which runs through 31 December 2026, Celestium costs €75 and Celestium Pro €150. From 1 January 2027, Celestium costs €100 and Celestium Pro €190. Upgrading from Celestium to Celestium Pro costs €75 through 31 December 2026; from 1 January 2027 it costs €90. All prices shown are in euros and include VAT.
Celestium is a one-off purchase: there is no subscription and you are never charged again automatically.
Obvious mistakes or typographical errors in prices are not binding on us.
Payment
If you order by email, you contact us at info@celestium.nl and pay through Mollie after receiving an invoice. If you order through the order form on this website, you pay directly on the site through Mollie. The payment methods we currently accept are SEPA bank transfer, iDEAL or Bancontact.
Mollie processes the payment. From Mollie we receive the data needed to match the payment to your order, such as the name of the payer and the account number, or with Bancontact the last digits of the card.
Delivery
Delivery is digital. Once we receive your payment, we send the license key and a download link to the email address you gave us, usually within one business day.
The program itself can be downloaded freely and used in full for fourteen days without a license.
Right of withdrawal
A statutory fourteen-day withdrawal period applies to the purchase of Celestium. Because Celestium is digital content not supplied on a physical medium, that period starts on the day the contract is formed, not on the day you download the program.
The right of withdrawal lapses only once three conditions are met together: you gave express prior consent to start delivery within the withdrawal period, you stated that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal, and we sent you a confirmation of that which you can keep.
If you order through the order form on this website, the form asks for that consent and that statement; without that consent you cannot order through the form. For a new license you state that you waive, or acknowledge that you lose, your right of withdrawal once you activate the license in Celestium, for an upgrade once Celestium retrieves the upgrade on your device; the form uses the wording that belongs to the language you order in. The email with your license key or with the confirmation of your upgrade contains the text you agreed to and the time you agreed. Until you activate the license or Celestium retrieves the upgrade, you can withdraw within fourteen days of your order. If you order by email, we do not ask for that consent and the full fourteen-day withdrawal period applies.
You can also withdraw with the withdrawal function on this website, on the page celestium.nl/en/withdraw. That function is available throughout the withdrawal period of fourteen days after your order.
You exercise the right of withdrawal using the model withdrawal form or any other clear statement, sent to info@celestium.nl. If you withdraw from the contract, we will reimburse all payments received from you, no later than fourteen days from the day on which we received your notice of withdrawal. We will carry out that reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the original transaction, unless you expressly agree otherwise; you will not incur any fees as a result.
Because you can try Celestium in full for fourteen days before buying a license regardless, you can judge in advance whether the program meets your expectations. The statutory right of withdrawal is separate from that trial period and does not lapse because the trial period exists.
Complaint handling
If you have a complaint about Celestium or about these terms, send it to info@celestium.nl. We respond to your complaint on its merits within fourteen days.
Conformity
Celestium must conform to the contract: the program must be fit for the purpose for which you use it and must have the properties you may expect under these terms and the product description on this website. If it does not, you are entitled to repair or replacement, a price reduction or termination of the contract, and damages, as the law provides for consumer purchases of digital content.
Updates and support
Your purchase includes an update and support period of at least two years from your purchase date. During that period you receive updates that bring improvements and fix bugs and security issues in the features you bought, and you can reach us with questions about using the program.
New functionality is not part of your purchase: if a major new version with new capabilities appears after that period, that is a separate purchase.
Your data and backups
Celestium keeps your charts, people, folders and notes in the database file astrologie.db on your own computer, in Documents\Celestium on Windows or in ~/Documents/Celestium on macOS. If your Documents folder syncs with iCloud, Celestium on macOS uses ~/Library/Application Support/Celestium instead. We have no access to that file, and no copy of it goes to us or to anyone else.
That file is yours. You can copy it, take it to another computer, or open it in any other SQLite tool. Celestium also has a backup function that writes a full copy of it in one step, and a restore function that puts such a copy back. With Celestium Exchange you can additionally write your data out in CEXF, AAF or text format, so that you can read it outside Celestium as well.
Keep such a copy in a second place, on an external drive for instance, the way you would with any other file on your computer. A drive that fails, a computer that is stolen or a file that disappears by accident has nothing to do with the program. With a recent copy, you can put your data back with the restore function in those cases.
None of that changes our responsibility for faults in Celestium itself. If data is lost because the program does not do what it should, that lies with us. The next section sets out what that means.
Liability
Which part of this section applies to you depends on how you buy Celestium. If you buy as a private individual, you are a consumer, and nothing below limits your statutory rights. If you buy in the course of a profession or business, as an astrologer with your own practice for example, a limit on our liability does apply. The exceptions at the end of this section apply in both cases.
If you buy as a consumer, we set no limit on our liability. If Celestium fails to conform to the contract, you keep in full every right the law gives you: repair, replacement, a price reduction, termination of the contract, and damages. These terms neither exclude that claim for damages nor cap it.
If you buy in the course of a profession or business, our liability per contract is limited to the price you paid for that contract. Indirect loss is not covered in that case: lost profit, lost turnover, lost clients, damage to reputation and the cost of delay or of work that has to be done again all fall outside this liability.
The reason for that limit is the relationship between price and risk. Celestium is a one-off purchase at the prices set out above under "Prices". Anyone using the program in a professional practice does work whose consequences can be worth many times that amount, and we can neither carry nor insure that risk at that price. For a consumer the trade-off does not arise: there the law comes first, which is why we limit nothing towards a consumer.
The limit above never applies to loss arising from death or personal injury, to loss we caused intentionally or through deliberate recklessness, or to our liability for a defective product. The latter covers, among other things, damage to property other than Celestium itself and the destruction or corruption of data you do not use for your profession or business. That liability cannot be limited or excluded by law, and we do not attempt to do so here.
Nor does the limit touch the refund of the purchase price. If you withdraw from your purchase within the withdrawal period or terminate the contract, you get the full amount you paid back. That stands apart from this section and is subject to no cap.
If you live outside the Netherlands and the mandatory law of your country of residence gives you more than this section does, that law applies. Nothing here can give you less than the law that applies to you.
Payments through Mollie
Once you pay through Mollie, we use Mollie to process that payment. This involves sharing the personal data needed for the payment with Mollie and the companies affiliated with Mollie. Our privacy statement has more on this.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands.
