Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions.

Do I need an internet connection to use Celestium?

No, not for normal use of the full version. After activation, Celestium works without an internet connection. You only need a connection to activate your license, to fetch an upgrade, to deactivate a computer, and for the OpenStreetMap map in Astrocartography and Local Space. Celestium tries to contact our server now and then to renew your license; if that fails, the program keeps working.

The trial checks the date online when it starts. On the tenth start in a row without an internet connection it closes; start it again with a connection and it works again.

What happens after the fourteen-day trial?

After fourteen days the trial stops working. Your data and settings are kept. If you want to keep using Celestium, you can buy a license afterwards.

Can I use Celestium on more than one machine?

Yes, on your own devices, for example a desktop and a laptop. How many devices, and what counts as a device, is explained below. If you reach the maximum, Celestium shows this hint when you activate: "To free a slot, open Celestium on one of those devices and deactivate it there, or contact support."

A license is personal and may not be shared by several people.

You activate Celestium online on each device, in the license window. The first time you start Celestium, it opens that window itself; later you find it through File → License... in the menu. You need an internet connection when you activate. A license covers up to three devices. Every user account on a computer counts as a device: if two accounts on the same computer use Celestium, those are two devices. A mobile device also counts as a device. If you reinstall Windows, the computer gets a new identifier and counts as a new device.

After activation, Celestium tries to contact our server now and then to renew your license. If you do not want to wait for that contact, choose "Refresh license" in the license window. If the contact fails, Celestium keeps working, also without an internet connection; the program only sees a revocation at its next contact.

You can free up a device in Celestium on that device itself, with "Deactivate this computer" in the license window. The slot is then free right away, unless devices of the license were already signed off at least two times as often as the maximum number of devices of the license in the last 30 days; the program then says so, and support can help. You can also ask us by email. The slot then becomes free as soon as that device itself next contacts our server, or right away if we link the license to another customer number. If the license is revoked, the device stays until we clean up the devices of the license. If the device is lost or broken, we can free the slot directly: without a separate decision on our part, at most one time per license per 365 days. If we revoke a license, for example after a chargeback, the program only notices at its next contact with our server.

At the top of the license window it says: "Enter the license key (CELE-...) or license code (CELL-...) from your purchase email. A license key is activated online and requires an internet connection; a license code also works offline." After a purchase, enter the license key from your purchase email there; it starts with CELE- and you activate it online. You do not receive a code starting with CELL- with a purchase.

If you activate Celestium on a device while the maximum has already been reached, the window "Celestium: License" shows a list of your devices. If a sign-off by email has been requested for one of those devices and it has not yet contacted our server, it shows "deactivation pending" next to it. Below the list it then says: "The slot becomes available as soon as that device goes online. Open Celestium on that device and choose Refresh license."

Can I teach with Celestium?

Yes. You may use Celestium in lessons, demonstrations and presentations. The license stays personal: everyone using Celestium independently needs a license of their own.

Can I bring my charts over from another program?

Yes. Celestium Exchange transfers charts from several astrology programs and file formats to Celestium. For data from Astroscoop there is also Celestium Import.

The Discover Celestium page lists the supported formats and programs.

Where are my charts stored?

Celestium stores your charts locally on your own computer. You can make backups yourself and keep them somewhere else, for example on an external drive or in your own cloud storage.

I bought Celestium. How do I move over from the trial?

Install the full version over the trial. Your existing charts, folders and settings are preserved. The first time you start Celestium, it opens the license window itself; enter the license key from your purchase email there. Later you find the license window through File → License... in the menu.

Can I upgrade from Celestium to Celestium Pro later?

Yes. You can upgrade to Celestium Pro at any time. You pay only the price difference, and your existing charts, folders and settings are preserved.

Which languages is Celestium available in?

Celestium is available in Dutch, English, German and French. You can switch language in the program at any time.

First aid with installation and activation

Still not working?

Windows warns that the publisher is unknown

Windows may show the message "Windows protected your PC" on first installation, because Celestium is not signed with Microsoft yet. Choose More info and then Run anyway to continue.

macOS says Celestium is damaged or cannot be opened

macOS blocks Celestium on first launch because the app is not signed with Apple yet. Close the message with Done or Cancel, not with Move to Trash.

If macOS says it cannot open Celestium: open System Settings, choose Privacy & Security and scroll to the Security heading. Next to the message about Celestium, choose Open Anyway, confirm with your password and then choose Open.

If macOS says Celestium is damaged: move Celestium to Applications, open Terminal and run this command. It removes the download mark from the app and changes nothing else:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Celestium.app

Then start Celestium again from Applications.

Why this step is needed

The path stays /Applications even where Finder shows the folder under a translated name. The System Settings route does not apply here: macOS offers that for a signed program from an unidentified developer, not for the message that a program is damaged.

Windows says Celestium is still in use when you install or remove it

That message comes from the installer or from Windows, for example during an update or when you remove Celestium while it is still running. Close Celestium completely and try again. If the message keeps appearing, open Task Manager and check whether Celestium is still running there. End the process and try again. If you start Celestium while it is already open, you get no message: the open window comes to the front.

The full version still starts as the trial

First check that you installed the full version and not the trial again. If needed, uninstall the trial, install the full version again and restart your computer.

If the problem persists, get in touch with us.

Celestium does not start after installing

Restart your computer and try opening Celestium again. If the problem persists, get in touch with us and mention which version of Windows or macOS you use and exactly what appears on screen.

I have lost my master password (Celestium Pro)

Get in touch with us. We will help you remove the master password and, if needed, the PIN of a folder as well. Your charts stay unchanged.
