License terms
Buying Celestium gives you a right to use the software, not ownership of it.
What your license allows
You may install and use Celestium on the machines you use yourself, professionally and privately. Your license key entitles you to use Celestium on up to three devices; the license is personal and issued in your name. A license server keeps track of the number of activations and issues a digitally signed proof of entitlement for each device. You activate your license key online; you need an internet connection when you activate. After that, Celestium renews your license now and then through our server; if the contact fails, Celestium keeps working. The privacy statement lists the data Celestium sends when it does.
You may freely use the charts, drawings and reports you produce with Celestium, including in your professional practice and in publications.
Devices and activation
You activate Celestium online on each device, in the license window. The first time you start Celestium, it opens that window itself; later you find it through File → License... in the menu. You need an internet connection when you activate. A license covers up to three devices. Every user account on a computer counts as a device: if two accounts on the same computer use Celestium, those are two devices. A mobile device also counts as a device. If you reinstall Windows, the computer gets a new identifier and counts as a new device.
After activation, Celestium tries to contact our server now and then to renew your license. If you do not want to wait for that contact, choose "Refresh license" in the license window. If the contact fails, Celestium keeps working, also without an internet connection; the program only sees a revocation at its next contact.
You can free up a device in Celestium on that device itself, with "Deactivate this computer" in the license window. The slot is then free right away, unless devices of the license were already signed off at least two times as often as the maximum number of devices of the license in the last 30 days; the program then says so, and support can help. You can also ask us by email. The slot then becomes free as soon as that device itself next contacts our server, or right away if we link the license to another customer number. If the license is revoked, the device stays until we clean up the devices of the license. If the device is lost or broken, we can free the slot directly: without a separate decision on our part, at most one time per license per 365 days. If we revoke a license, for example after a chargeback, the program only notices at its next contact with our server.
What is not allowed
Your copy of Celestium is not for sharing, publishing or reselling.
Decompiling, modifying or distributing the software is not permitted, except to the extent that mandatory law allows it.
One-off purchase and updates
Celestium is a one-off purchase; there is no subscription. Your purchase includes an update and support period of at least two years: during that period, updates covering fixes, improvements and security patches for the features you bought are included.
New functionality is not part of your purchase: if a major new version with new capabilities appears after that period, that is a separate purchase.
Upgrading to Celestium Pro
Owners of Celestium can upgrade to Celestium Pro by paying the difference. Your existing data is preserved.
Third-party components
Celestium uses the Swiss Ephemeris for astronomical calculation. The place database is assembled from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0), OpenStreetMap through the Overpass API (ODbL), PDOK and CBS Locatieserver, data.gouv.fr under Licence Ouverte 2.0, and a range of open data portals run by Belgian, French, German, British, Austrian and Swiss cities and authorities. The full attribution is carried in the database itself, in the attribution field of the meta table. The license terms of the respective rights holders apply to those components.
